The greatest of all time? I think so. David Lee Roth was at the absolute peak of his powers on May 29, 1983 at the US Festival in Glen Helen Regional Park, just outside of Los Angeles. Van Halen made 1.5 million dollars for that show. Their payday was a world record at the time for the highest amount ever paid to a music act for a single performance. This shot was from a press conference shortly before their show.
About Chris Deutsch
In the mid-1980s, Chris Deutsch published Front Row magazine in Denver, and did photography for a variety of other publications. For many years, he photographed almost every major show that came through Denver. His portfolio includes many great bands and performers at the peak of their careers: Van Halen, Kiss, Bon Jovi, U2, Iron Maiden & Elton John. Chris also photographed other performers like Motley Crue, Scorpions, Whitney Houston and Cyndi Lauper when they were just getting started. Sometimes there were surprises, such as when a relatively unknown band named Metallica opened for Ozzy Osbourne.
