In the mid-1980s, Deutsch published Front Row magazine in Denver, and did photography for a variety of other publications. For many years, Deutsch photographed almost every major show that came through Denver. His portfolio includes many great bands and performers at the peak of their careers: Van Halen, Kiss, Bon Jovi, U2, Iron Maiden & Elton John. He also photographed other performers like Motley Crue, Whitney Houston and Cyndi Lauper when they were just getting started. Sometimes there were surprises, such as when a relatively unknown band named Metallica opened for Ozzy Osbourne. There were also less well known—but equally interesting—performers like Yngwie Malmsteen, Will Sexton and Jello Biafra to name just a few.

Twenty five years ago these were just great photographs. Today they are much more. They are part of history. These are pictures of the performers as you remember them, at their peak, showing a youthful side that in many cases has long since faded away. There is an energy and exuberance that matches the music that made these artists famous. Few things are as visual as a great rock n’ roll performance. Never was that more true than in the 1980’s as the MTV video generation unfolded. Deutsch had a unique ability to capture the defining moments in these shows, the visual memory that perfectly matched the performance on stage.
